China has recently announced its plan to move towards a “circular economy,” meaning an economy which attempts to strike a balance between economic development and environmental and resource protection. This change is expected to have a huge impact on the global recycling industry. Specifically, with this new pledge, China expects to strengthen its environmental regulations and to boost the annual output of the country’s recycling industry to $287 billion per year by 2015.
